10 things to do in Mississauga for May 13 to May 15

Friday, May 13

1. ORGANIC GARDENING: Yvonne Lau from Ecosource hosts a free workshop on organic food gardening at Studio.89. Those who attend can learn about the diversity of food that can be grown in Mississauga, how to grow it successfully and garden planning.

2. STAMPS COINS: The National Postage Stamp and Coin show happens at the International Centre in Malton. About 30 international and Canadian dealers will be at the show with stamps, souvenir sheets and first-day covers, postcards, coins and banknotes, Royal Canadian Mint products, medals and other items. It continues Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, May 14

3. LIVE BOXING: Brandon Cook puts his 16-0 record and WBA Intercontinental super welterweight title on the line against German champion Davide Doria in the main event of a six-fight show presented by United Boxing Promotions at the Hershey Centre. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or the Hershey Centre box office. The fights begin at 7 p.m.

4. PLANT SALE: The Cloverleaf Garden Club of Mississauga hosts a plant sale at the Carmen Corbasson Community Centre. The sale will feature a selection of perennial plants, shrubs and herbs grown by members and friends of the club. Admission is free.

5. QURAN EXHIBIT: Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association Mississauga presents its Holy Quran exhibit at the South Common Community Centre. The public is invited to come out and learn about the Quran and see for themselves what’s written inside it.

6. TRY RINGETTE: The Mississauga Ringette Association is giving prospective players a chance to learn more about ringette and also provide them with an opportunity to try the sport at a free event happening at Tomken Twin Arena. It runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

7. CRAFT SHOW: More than 100 exhibitors will be selling all manner of handcrafted items at the Craftadian show at the Hershey Centre. Just some of the items available include artwork, stationery, home decor, leather goods and clothing. There will also be candles, ceramics, fashion accessories, pottery, paper goods, toys and food.

8. CURVY EXPO: The Curvy Expo is an afternoon of fashion and fun for plus-sized women happening at the International Centre. The event includes a pair of fashion shows with models all size 12 and above and there will be appearances by bloggers as well as vendors selling everything from clothing to accessories, lingerie, food and photography services.

Sunday, May 15

9. VAPE EXPO: Love to vape? Canada’s Vape Expo happens at the International Centre and will feature about 150 vendors showing off the latest in vaping technology and there will also be appearances from the industry’s leading companies and brands. Admission is restricted to those 19 years of age and older.

10. MS WALK: The Mississauga MS Walk in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada happens at Mississauga Valley Park. Funds raised through the event will go to support the society’s Peel-Dufferin chapter and to further national research into a cause and cure for MS.
