Defying gravity on Grosvenor

Christian Dior once said “Real elegance is everywhere. Especially in the things that don’t show,” and the owners of Gravity Lingerie would agree.

Celebrating their one year anniversary, Sherry Valentine and Judy Cheetham have been providing that touch of elegance from their Grosvenor Avenue location.

Gravity Lingerie co-owners Sherry Valentine and Judy Cheetham give their customers personal, custom service.

“We celebrated our first anniversary on June 14th and could not be happier that we decided to open this business in such a fabulous neighborhood,” Cheetham said.

“With well over 60 years of combined experience in the lingerie industry, Sherry and I felt the time was right for something new and fresh.  So, we set out to offer just that!”

And they have succeeded. At Gravity Lingerie you will find amazing lingerie lines for every woman, many of which you will not find elsewhere in the city. But if you ask Judy, what really sets them apart is their attention to each and every customer who walks through the doors.

“For many women, bra shopping is not high on their ‘to do’ list so proper fits are often compromised, especially when purchases are made hastily, thinking they have the ‘right size ‘or ‘close enough,’ ” Judy said.

“We actually make the experience less daunting and it can be a lot fun. There are many days where we receive a hug when a client leaves our store and quite frankly that is the best part of our job.”

There are a few key things to keep in mind when shopping for a new bra.

“It is important that the band is snug,” said Judy. “This is where your support is. If choosing an underwire, at no time should the wire be on your breast tissue. The straps of the bra should never be tight or dig in to your shoulders.”

Judy also recommends that you wash your bras after every couple of wears and that you be professionally fitted at least once a year.

“We all change due to hormones, weight, etc., so just because you are comfortable in your bra doesn’t mean it still fits properly.  Sometimes it is an easy adjustment to get you back on track.”

To find that perfect bra for everyday, that special gown, or even your wedding dress, be sure to visit Gravity Lingerie at 252 Stafford St. at Grosvenor Avenue.
