On behalf of the veterans committee of Elks Lodge 2751 of Cumberland County, Carlena Hesters presented Red Morrow, senior vice president of the local Disabled American Veterans, with a check for $500 for the DAV van fund on Nov. 23. The money will help make sure that veterans from Cumberland County are able to get to and from their appointments in both Murfreesboro and Nashville VA locations. Also on hand was Dan Dunham, veterans committee chairperson of Elks Lodge 2751.

Earlier this year a proposal was made to the Elks Lodge 2751 veterans committee to hold a two-night performance titled “Showcase of Screen and Stage Stars” by Carlena Hesters. Hesters is not only a member of good standing in the Elks, but she is also a very talented person in her own right, having performed, directed and assisted in many performances over her lifetime.
The proposal was accepted by the veterans committee, and the rehearsals began. Choosing from the members of the lodge for her show, Hesters somehow managed to hone these members into a sold-out program that the crowd would never forget.
Star likenesses ranging from Kenny Rogers to Lucille Ball took to the stage and performed like seasoned troopers. The entire show was both an outstanding display of talent, but also a successful money-making event for veterans within the county.
