Do it! Lingerie

“Oh yeah I’m just wearing a hoody and trackies today, whatever, so much essay to do” but then, little do they know BAM! underneath my clothes I’m also wearing the nicest underwear I have…

Dressing up underneath your clothes is like going for a walk in the park on a cold, crisp Sunday morning when it’s a lovely day and everything is serene and pretty, then in your headphones you’ve secretly got on ‘Move Bitch, get out the way’. And then there you are just appreciating the way the sunlight has caught the water glistening on an intricate and delicate cobweb, all the while running in your ears is the booming voice of Ludacris ‘get out the way bitch, get out the way!’. It’s about doing something just for you.

I just love underwear! Matching sets, slips and negligees. I definitely think everyone looks their best in nice underwear. I love the way it makes me feel; more confident, more put together yes, and obviously more sexy. But underwear doesn’t even have to be that sexy, often a lot of it can just be lovely, pretty and soft; it’s about the touch and feel of the material, not just the view!

But there’s still some underwear that I HATE: thongs and G-strings. I just don’t understand what it is they are doing. Where’s the rest, who has taken it away? I can’t help but see them as comical in the same way gilets are. And it’s the same with bras- make sure they fit or else what are they doing? A little cleavage is sexy, a little flash of nip? NO. For me, it’s all about high-waisted big knickers and a bra to match- they are just so much sexier, look at the women of 1940’s pin-up!

Now ladies (for some reason I think that is how we are supposed refer to each other whenever we talk about anything underwear-related), you need to make sure that your underwear fits properly. This is true for pants (nobody wants a muffin top) but is especially true for bras: I worked and Mothercare and I can confirm the statistic that 88% of women are wearing the wrong size bra (because I did bra measuring, not because I was some kind of breast pervert). Wearing the wrong size is not only unflattering but can also be bad for you, so just go and get measured!

Actually, I remember the first time me and my friend went to get bra-fitted together. I’d resolved to go to Debenhams after an attempt at measuring myself turned out to be a highly traumatic experience. I’d researched how to bra measure and read you have to measure under the bust in inches where the bra would lie then add 4 inches to that number for the band size. Then you measure around the bust and count the difference between that and the original under-the-bust measurement to work out the cup size.

At such a tender age and in a confused state I forgot I had added the 4 to the band number making my bust size 4 inches less than my band size and so thought the measuring tape was implying not just that I was flat-chested but that I actually had inverted boobs.

But anyway, now that I actually have breasts that can be measured I make sure to go every time I buy a new bra; more than just size, the shop assistants make sure the bra properly fits those lovely lady lumps, in the back and in the front. (I don’t like that Fergie calls them lumps).

So Do it! Make an effort with your underwear even, and especially when no one else will see it. And just because I always seem to give household storage advice at the end of my blog (which, surprisingly, was not my original direction as a blogger…) here’s another one: to stop your bras getting all crumpled and wobbly (I know you know what I mean) the best thing to do is to hang them up in your wardrobe along with the matching undies. I just asked at MS if I could take a few of their spare bra-hangers and they don’t mind at all, and now my bras stay perfect! It also means I get to choose what underwear I’ll wear at the same time as choosing my outfit, which always makes me feel so fancy.
